Zach Spuckler teaches online business owners how to get seen, be heard and become profitable leveraging Periscope and Facebook. In his first year of business he leveraged periscope to create $160,000 in revenue and has continued to see growth with the platform.

No other platform has grown as fast as Periscope and it's naive to think that live streaming and live video isn't going to become and relevant to business as Facebook . If you don't get in now, you're throwing away BIG opportunity.

In this episode, Zach and I discuss:

- how to leverage livestreaming for Leads

- how to get followers

- how to get confident being live on air

- a basic scope outline to help you get started

- how to prevalidate all of your ideas via livestream

Wasting your time, energy and money is not high on your to-do list I imagine...yet you continue to do it over and over again in your business.

You're not sure if something is going to work, going to sell, or going to get people results, but you spend weeks behind the scenes creating it anyway...and then when it doesn't become a big hit you wonder why.

You didn't ask them. You didn't listen. You didn't make sure it was exactly what they wanted or needed to get them the results they want.

In this episode I want to share exactly WHY you need to prevalidate everything you do, from entire business idea to free gifts that you share with your audience.

If you want the full prevalidation cheatsheet, you can get access to that here for FREE.

You have to believe that your work is actually saving them, solving a problem for them, rescue them. If you’re not really sure what it is that you’re rescuing them from, it’s going to be very challenging to sell it.

Which is why you need to understand what it is you do and who you do it for.

Start small and go rescue people from their problems. That's what we'll be talking more specifically about in this episode.

Most people don’t get clients because they’re unwilling to do the hard {and potentially scary} work of reaching out and offering themselves as a solution.

I want you to literally think of yourself on the search and rescue team. When we’re in trouble, lost, stuck, in pain...we want to be rescued.

This episode is all about getting out there and rescuing some humans.

Being willing to start small and build from there is super important.

You need to be confident and comfortable with your pricing, always being sure you’re over-delivering and not over-charging. This is going to set you up for long-term, sustainable success versus just making some quick and easy cash by overcharging right out the gate.

Note: this has nothing to do with your self-worth. If you’re confused about this difference between charging for the value you provide and charging based on your worth -- listen to this episode.

→ work for free.

If you’re not confident with charging anything yet, or unsure if you can even get people results, I’d encourage you to do some FREE work first.

Test out your solution with 3 people for free to get you feeling more confident and clear. Doing this free work has ALWAYS turned into paid clients as well, so while it may seem counterintuitive, doing free work will get you paid clients.

→ be bold, be proactive.

Some parts of business are a numbers game. I want you to get out there and collect no’s.

You’re probably over there thinking... “Why would I collect no’s Adrienne? I want to collect YES’s!”

Of course I want you to collect YES’S, but when you put tons of pressure on yourself to do that, you can easily get discouraged and you’re creating too much attachment to the outcome of each individual interaction. I want you to understand that no’s don’t mean stop, they mean go ask more people.

By following the search and rescue plan you WILL get your first 3 clients, probably more. But the main goal isn’t to make tons of money, although you might do that too...the main goal is to get more feedback.

Because the more feedback you get, the better and easier things will become.

You’ll be figuring out if your product/service is something people want/need {pre-validate this thing}, discovering if you even like doing this {sometimes things are sexier in theory}, and if you’re effectively communicating the value through your pitch.

Each time you talk to someone you’ll uncover more feedback about how to make this business even better. And believe me, you want to do this NOW...not after you create the marketing plan, design the website and waste tons of money.

The search and rescue plan is a simple way for you to get quick feedback, make money, and validate your business. By getting these 3 paying clients, you’re going to gain tons of clarity, confidence, and momentum to move this business forward.

The third step of the Search & Rescue plan is all about the MATH -- you can get full access to the entire 3 part Search & Rescue plan with a complete breakdown of the math here, FOR FREE.

The Search Plan!

Who is your ideal client? Where would they be going to look for a solution to their problems? Are they googling it? Asking their friends? Reading books? Searching on craigslist?

Where are these humans already looking for solutions to their problems? And how can you create the solution to their problem through your services?

Most people spend way too much time overthinking how to get their first clients, when there are likely people within your network that either 1. Need your services or 2. Know someone who needs your services.

In this episode we'll cover exactly how to FIND those people who need you.

Get access to the Search & Rescue plan where I'll show you how to create $1k in the next 30 days here, it's free.

When you select a business model you want to make sure it fits with your ideal day as well.

Start with your ideal day.

Describe your ideal day – all of it. Get super specific and imagine this day with all five senses - what you're feeling, tasting, smelling, touching, and seeing as you go through your day. Take note and be mindful of your desired feelings.

Get specific about what you’re actually doing. Think about the conversations you’re having, the actions you’re taking, and the things you’re creating. Remember, this is a fantasy ideal day – it’s your story to write and can be as improbable as you can imagine.

Your business model selection is what determines what your income and your days will actually look like, but most people breeze right through this and don't take the time to understand how their business model and their ideal day match up.

In this episode, I'll share the 5 most common types of online business models and some pros and cons associated with each so you can decide how your ideal would fit into each option. Do NOT skip this step of business foundations, as building a business around the wrong business model will burn you out!

Types of Online Business Models

  • Service Based Business {Coaching, Consulting, Web Design, Graphic Design, & Copywriting, etc.}
  • Digital Products / SaaS {Software as a Service}
  • Product Based Business {ecommerce}
  • Blogging {Advertising & Affiliate Sales}
  • 3rd Party Sales {Amazon, Ebay, Etsy}

* note this isn't an exhaustive list, but it's a great list to start with

Alex is the author of the book MASTER THE DAY, which is based on the success habits behind people that lost over 100+ pounds in a healthy way, and kept it off, and the founder of Modern Health Monk - a site dedicated to helping ambitious professionals lose weight and feel awesome by changing tiny habits.

Most of the health and weight loss advice is the exact same, even from respectable people. Here's my unique diet, blah blah blah. Here are my unique supplements, blah blah blah.

Alex’s entire process is based on addressing success at the origin: our habits, our personality, our character, regardless of what diet you're on. Many people have realized that the diet can constantly change, but unless WE change, nothing happens.

Alex and I discuss:

- The daily success habits of people that lost 100+ pounds in a healthy way and kept it off

- The myth of discipline and willpower: how tiny habits win every time

- Success habits of olympians, writers, and even the creator of the rolls royce - how they bypassed traditional thinking of "I need to be more disciplined"

I thought I liked Beyonce before last week, and then there was LEMONADE…

And I realized I didn’t like her, I LOVED her. It was pure creative and business genius all wrapped into one.

When my friend messaged me on Friday afternoon with an invite to the sold out Beyonce show that night I said “ummm, is Beyonce the Queen?! DUH.”

So, when I thought I couldn’t love Beyonce anymore, she won me over with her Formation Tour performance. As her signature bodysuits got smaller and smaller throughout the night, my love grew bigger and when I thought I was pretty happy with who I am, I suddenly just wanted to be Beyonce.

But all that aside, I couldn’t stop thinking about the well thought out marketing and business genius that Queen Bey has been slaying.

As an entrepreneur and business strategist, my mind is always swirling and assessing what other businesses and industries are doing to stand out, and Bey is pretty much unstoppable right now.

So, let’s break some of this down into 5 ways you can slay like Bey {in business}:

  1. Do the work. As Rihanna would say, she works works works works works - the girl is a DIVE, the female version of a hustler, and she says it herself. We’ve all seen the meme - you have the same number of hours in the day as Beyonce - and she’s seriously impressive. I mean, I was exhausted from just WATCHING her concert, and to think she got up and did it all again the next day...and will do that for the next few months, is not human. The girl knows how to DO THE WORK. I mean, she literally said she grinds till she owns it. Do you? And doing the work doesn’t mean being miserable...Beyonce clearly LOVES doing the work. When you have a career that lights you up, you are thankful that you get to do the work each and everyday! This goes for you too, if you want to be the Queen, do the work!
  1. Tell a story. Have you seen LEMONADE? If not, run here now. She's a storytelling genius and everything is well thought out and interconnected - each song is its own story, but then she strings them together to tell an even bigger one. Regardless of this is autobiographical or just incredible art, we’re invested and we can feel the emotional connection when people tell stories. We feel like we know her and that she knows us because of her ability to pull us into the entire story, it’s not just a song anymore. Start telling a story through your work and create an emotional connection with your audience.
  1. Create a language. She's got her own language {the beehive, slay, bootylicious, etc.} and it makes you feel like you’re part of her community -- because you are. Creating names and a language of your own helps people not only feel connected to you, but to each other as well. It’s like they all have Beyonce in common and it unites! Unite your people with a common language!
  1. Confidence. The girl knows she's flawless, I mean, she woke up like this too. Her body is so bootylicious and she knows it. That all might seem a little cocky to say out loud {go ahead and try it about yourself}, but the truth is if you’re going to run a business, or create any insane level of success, you’ve got to be your own biggest fan. I encourage you to wake up every day and let yourself know that you are flawless, and you too woke up like this.
  1. Be controversial, have a message. Beyonce is clearly NOT afraid to be controversial {well, maybe she’s afraid, but she’s doing it anyway}. She is currently causing lots of commotion by saying what she really thinks and she’s on the edge of creating a REVOLUTION. Revolutions don’t happen because people were quiet with their opinions. Saying what you truly think will polarize people. It will cause people to hate her, but her true fans will love her even more.

This is exactly what you need to do in your business, no more vanilla, Queen Bey needs you to pony up and start your own revolution, because nothing will ever change in this world if we’re all afraid to say something different.

Regardless if you agree with Beyonce’s current message, you have to admit, it’s brave and courageous of her to say what she really thinks, take a page from her book and be revolutionary with your message!

And based on what I saw at the concert, her fans are more fanatical than ever...there were literally humans SOBBING behind me before the show when they thought they saw her HAIR on stage left. The thought of seeing her hair brought them to tears.

I could go on and on about all the ways Beyonce is slaying like a queen right now in business, but if you take these 5 ways and start channeling this hustler a little more often, you’ll be way ahead of the game.

I'm back in the triathlon game as of this weekend. I put a hold on my racing game all of last year to focus on growing the business, but I've officially registered for a few races at the end of summer to get my head back in the game.

I've always been an athlete and there is something primal within me that feels the need to compete and race {I've felt this since I was a little girl}.

I wanted to break down in this episode some of the traits and skills that being an athlete has taught me that I can also bring to my business.

1. Discipline.

It’s not the will to win that matters -- everyone has that. It’s the will to prepare to win that matters.  -- Paul “Bear” Bryant

Everyone wants to show up on race day and win, but the athletes who win are winning because they have prepared in advance and committed to the training.

The same thing is true in business. You can’t expect to win on race day without showing up and preparing. This means taking action even when you don’t “feel” like it.

2. Handling fear, risks, and uncertainty

Never let the fear of striking out get in your way. -- Babe Ruth

Being able to handle uncertainty, risks, & fear is essential to creating success, and stepping outside of your comfort zone is what cultivates growth. Athletes understand this and are able to push through when necessary.

3. Resilience.

I’ve missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. Twenty six times, I’ve been trusted to take the game-winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed. -- Michael Jordan

I’ve interviewed over 100 entrepreneurs for my podcast, The School of Self-Mastery podcast, and every single one of them has identified that their successes are a results of their failures.

There are going to be tons of missed shots, slow races, injuries, and lost games on the road to a world championship. If we are willing to reflect and learn from our failures, they are the reasons for our success.

4. Commitment to growth

Athletes spend time honing their craft, they know there is always room for improvement and they’re willing to spend the money, time and energy to ensure they enhance their skill sets, they know that if they’re not getting better, they’re getting left behind.

I have personally spent thousands of dollars on courses, mentors, certifications, and books because in my mind it’s no different than my life as an athlete and hiring the best trainer, equipment or coach to get me to the next level, to push me to places I couldn’t go on my own, and to improve my game.

5. Run Your Own Race

Most business owners want to look around, look ahead, and look behind to see who's creeping up, but the that will only cause you to trip and fall. Keeping your head in your own game is critical to your success and improvement.

As a triathlete, I know that the only person I'm really competing with each race day is myself. I can only realistically compare myself to my best time, and work towards achieving a PR that day on the course.

Constant comparison will slow you down, mess with your mind, and cause you to lose focus on what YOU really want.

A successful business includes these three elements: message, messenger, and medium.

Message: What's being said.

Messenger: Who's saying it.

Medium: How it’s being said.

While most people hyper-focus on the message, rack their brains, bang their heads and then give up because their message wasn't unique enough, I want to approach this from a different angle.

The message has already been said.

Everything that will be said has already been said.

So, stop worrying so much about that and instead focus on your role as the messenger. The person who needs to deliver it.

There is someone out there in the interwebs, or even in real life, who needs to hear that exact message from YOU in order for it to sink in, to make sense, or to cause them to act.

The messenger is something that gets overlooked, but it's the most important piece.

Has this ever happened to you...someone said something to you 6 different times, but when someone else said it the first time, it clicked.

Of course it has. And you are the CLICK for someone else.

Go be a messenger.

Get access to the FREE Permission to Hustle mini-course here where you'll discover how to create the right message and be the messenger unapologetically!

I stood up Oprah this weekend.

About a month or so ago, my girl, Marie Forleo, shared that she'd be speaking at Oprah's Super Soul Sunday in LA and they were selling tickets to attend.

I thought it would be super cool and inspiring to be in the room with Oprah, Marie, and some other incredible humans.

So, I bought the ticket. Booked the flight {in and out within 36 hours to LA}.

Then I had the most incredibly inspiring {yet, exhausting} weekend in Vegas last weekend, a red-eye flight home and over 30 hours of just client calls and meetings, workshops, etc this week.

Plus...I hadn't had any real quality alone time with Tyler in two weeks because of travel.

I canceled.

I lost some money.

I decided that if I went, yes I would be inspired, but would it align with my goals? Move my business forward? Ehh, maybe. {But probably not - no offense Oprah!}

Not really aligned with what I'm working on...And I still have tons of stuff to implement from last weekend, so I don't need more of that if I'm being honest with myself.

The part of my business that needed me the most this weekend was the part that takes time away.

My fiancé needed more than my business needed me this weekend.

My fiancé and pups wanted to spend time with me more than Oprah did {the cold hard truth}.

And while saying no was really hard and sure I got FOMO probably 66 times today...I had an incredible, and much needed day with my man {and pups}.

Which I guarantee will allow me to pour into my business and into my clients next week way more than sitting in the same room as Oprah will. {maybe?}

I knew taking the red-eye home tonight -- I'd be on a plane at this very moment - would mean another week where I just tried to play catch up the entire time.

Not cute for me.

Sometimes the thing your business needs is not more inspiration, not more business, but rather MORE LIFE.

Your business needs you to have a life. That's where creativity lives. That's where ideas emerge. That's where you create the internal freedom.

When you're making decisions for YOUR business - ask if it's aligned with your goals, if it's not, it's a no 🙌🏻

So, today I stood up Oprah, but I don't think she missed me.

When thinking about my whole "permission to hustle" concept -- this is actually the EPITOME of hustling in my mind.

Yes, not going to this event was hustling.

How, you ask? Because it had nothing to do with my goals.

I don't want you to hustle for the sake of it, or work non-stop! I want you to get smart and strategic about what you need to be focused on and hustle on that! That's where permission to hustle comes in. This isn't about burning out, it's about taking ambition and turning it into action unapologetically, but only when it aligns with the results you want to create.

Oprah didn't align for me this weekend.

Taking time off can be a controversial topic for some reason. Especially coming from a corporate background, it was looked down upon.

But what happens when you're responsible for ALL THE THINGS in your own business? What does time off even look like and how can you learn to embrace it, while not falling too far into it and losing traction?

In this episode I share my views on taking time off and encourage you to reflect on a time off plan that serves both yourself and your results...guilt free.

Guilt free time off is the only way it's even worth it, so here's the scoop on how to make that happen.

If Tibetan philosophies of non-attachment made passionate love to high-level business acumen with a hefty dash of bodymind connection, and raised their resultant love child on a steady diet of craft beer, traditional foods, mountain living, yoga, and snow skiing you'd have, Makenna Johnston. Fondly known as MakJo.

MakJo is a passionate coach & thought leader for visionary leaders-entrepreneurs, creatives, and corporate rabblerousers. She has over a decade of experience working with Fortune 500 companies, coaches, organizations, artists, and writers to create strategic visions and missions that kick ass and take names.

She comes from a background of academia both as a professor and as a PhD Candidate at the European Graduate School.

In 2015, she followed a lark/hunch/intuitive pull and found a team to purchase Julia Child's summer home in Provence which is now being run as a retreat center and home for the Courageous Cooking School.

A big picture see-er, and MakJo can whip nearly any vision into actionable shape. She's mighty tall. Mighty fun. And mighty into kimonos (and manatees). She probably likes you a lot, and don't be surprised if she asks you to be her best friend.

She lives online at www.makennajohnston.com and http://bit.ly/theblissbrigade
